Acceptable methods of payment

Fees may be charged in Australian or US dollars, depending on the date and location of processing.  Payment is taken at the time of lodgement.

All offices accept payment by Visa and Mastercard (credit or debit). The following offices accept these additional card types:

  • Discover: Honolulu, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington only
  • Apple Pay and CashApp (using Visa, MasterCard, and Discover): San Francisco and Houston only

Cash and cheques are not accepted at any office.

Another person may pay on your behalf, however if they are not present at your interview, we can accept their credit card payment if they complete and sign our Credit Card Authorisation Form. You must present the signed authorisation form at your interview.

Alternatively, you can purchase a prepaid Visa or MasterCard at many stores across the United States, including pharmacies. The pre-paid card can used to pay the fees at your interview, or if you are eligible to mail-in your application, you can complete a credit card authorisation form (using the pre-paid card number and security code (CVV)) and include the completed authorisation form with your application.

Receiving your new passport

You should allow at least six weeks to receive your new passport.  Passports are despatched by FedEx according to the costs in the table above.  We can send up to 3 passports to one address using one FedEx fee.

If you prefer, you can provide a prepaid letter-sized envelope with the courier company of your choice, such as UPS or FedEx, but please note:

  • Washington, Houston and New York do not accept pre-paid UPS courier envelopes at this time.
  • We do not send passports via the US Postal Service.
  • You must use a service that requires a signature on delivery. We will not use your courier envelope if it allows a delivery driver to leave your package unattended.
