Tom Pearce

Tom Pearce, Minister-Counsellor (Management) and Consul-General for the Embassy of Australia, Washington DC

Tom Pearce commenced as Minister-Counsellor (Management) and Consul-General for the Australian Embassy in Washington DC in March 2026. He is a senior executive at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with over 18 years of experience leading corporate, consular, and enabling services across the Australian Government. He was most recently Minister Counsellor (Management) and Consul General at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta.

Tom brings extensive experience in crisis response and consular operations. Prior to his departure for Jakarta in October 2020, Tom served in DFAT’s COVID Crisis Centre, where he contributed significantly to Australia’s global repatriation efforts. He continued this work during the pandemic in Indonesia.

In Canberra, Tom has led major reforms in Commonwealth financial and procurement frameworks and delivered a number of large scale contracting initiatives. Prior to joining DFAT, Tom worked at the Department of Environment. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration.
