Stuart Rees, Consul-General and Trade and Investment Commissioner 

Stuart Rees is a career officer of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission.  He was recently the acting Minister-Counsellor (Commercial) and Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, based at the Australian High Commission in London.  He has deep experience working across government and business to promote Australia to international investors and helping Australian exporters achieve success. 

Stuart excels in building high performing teams to support Australia’s commercial engagement.  Prior to London, he led Austrade’s Southeast Asia Deal Teams, a joint initiative with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Export Finance Australia (EFA) to grow outbound investment from Australia to Southeast Asia.  He has been posted to Bangkok, New Delhi and in Mumbai including in Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner roles. 

Stuart joined Austrade after an earlier career in finance and agribusiness. He is originally from Western Victoria and in his early youth spent time as a Jackaroo in New South Wales and Western Australia.  He is a graduate of Marcus Oldham College – Australia’s leading agricultural tertiary institution.
