A Toast to Will Power

Australia's Ambassador to the United States welcomed 2018 Indy500 champion and Mateship Patron, Will Power to his official Residence to celebrate Will's monumental achievements and wish him luck for the 2019 Indy500. Will made IndyCar history in 2018, becoming the first Australian ever to win the Indianapolis 500.

Cheers to 50 Years at Scott Circle

This year, we raise our glasses to say cheers to 50 years on Scott Circle. The chancery we stand in today has come to represent the physical manifestation of the close relationship between Australia and the United States. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this building a living, breathing example of the enduring partnership between our two nations.

Re-launch of Washington DC's grass tennis court

The Embassy of Australia in partnership with the American Australian Association re-launched Washington, DC’s only grass tennis court with iconic tennis legends Rod Laver AC, MBE and Fred Stolle AO. Located at the Australian Ambassador's Residence, the court has been fully restored thanks to the support of Peter Lowy and the Lowy Family.

Australia and the United States celebrate Mateship at Pearl Harbour

Mateship is standing by each other in the darkest of hours, being honest with each other, loyal to each other. This Tuesday, we took a moment to reflect on the importance of our history and long-standing alliance with our US 'mates' as the Royal Australian Navy​ HMAS Hobart III moored alongside the U.S. Navy​ USS WAYNE E. MEYER ( DDG 108). While here, the Royal Australian Navy will be conducting a series of inport and at sea exercises with the US Navy.

Centenary of Mateship Event

Australia and the United States celebrated 100 years of Mateship on 4 July 2018. As part of the celebrations, there was a Commemorative Service held at the Washington National Cathedral and a Military Pageant Performance and Reception at Fort Myer, Virginia on 27 June 2018.

National Governors Association Partnership

The NGA Chairman, Governor Sandoval of Nevada, invited Australia to be an international partner to the NGA for the 2018 Winter meeting and for Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, Prime Minister of Australia, Hon Steve Ciobo, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, and all Australian Premiers and Chief Ministers to attend the Winter session in recognition that the year marks 100 years of MateshipRead more >

75th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea

On 4 May 2017 the Embassy and American Australian Association were honoured to host Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his wife Lucy, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump and veterans of the War in the Pacific at the gala dinner to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea and the official launch of the “100 years of Mateship” campaign. Mateship Summer BBQ

Nothing says summer like a traditional Aussie BBQ so we kicked off Summer 2017 with a “barbie” for 400 of our closest friends at the Ambassador’s residence. Honoured guests included the Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, General Robert Neller and the Director of the National Security Agency, Admiral Mike Rogers. Launch of “Friends of Australia” Congressional Caucuses

The Ambassador, the Hon. Joe Hockey, Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, the Hon. Peter Dutton and embassy staff were thrilled to host our friends from Capitol Hill in early October for the official launch of the House and Senate friends of Australia Caucuses and celebrate the unique relationship that exists between Australia and the USA. The 3rd Annual Mateship Charity Golf Day

On Monday September 16, 2019, The Embassy of Australia in partnership with the American Australian Association (AAA) hosted the 3rd Annual Mateship Charity Golf Tournament. Held at the Whiskey Greek Golf Club in Maryland, with sporting legends Greg Norman and Jan Stephenson, the day was in support of AAA's Veteran's Fund and was all about honouring our veterans. We were grateful to have playing with us four World War II vets and five Vietnam War vets, thanks to The Greatest Generations Foundation, who are dedicated to honouring the sacrifices of veterans like these men and preserving their stories for future generations.

The 2nd Annual Mateship Charity Golf Day

On Monday September 10, 2018, The Embassy of Australia in partnership with the American Australian Association (AAA) hosted the 2nd Annual Mateship Charity Golf Tournament. Held at the prestigious Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey, the tournament provided an opportunity to honour and remember our military heroes and celebrate the mateship between our two countries, while raising more than $200,000 for the AAA’s Veterans’ Scholarship Fund (VSF). The inaugural Mateship Charity Golf Day

In 2017, the Embassy of Australia partnered with the American Association to host foursomes from across the US government, military and business on the Greg Norman-designed course at Lansdowne. We were honoured to be joined by veterans of recent conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq and two veterans from World War Two. The event raised more than $200,000 for the AAA’s Veterans’ Scholarship Fund, which awards $40,000 scholarships to Australian veterans to study in the United States, and US veterans to study at Australian institutions.
