Visiting Washington, DC?
PLEASE NOTE: The Embassy of Australia is unable to arrange tours of the White House for the Australian public. Previously, embassies arranged White House tours for foreign nationals in conjunction with the U.S. Department of State, however that program was cancelled in 2011. Although the White House and National Park Service websites direct foreign citizens to contact their embassy, opportunities for private tours are very limited and the U.S. Department of State requires foreigners to be accompanied by a senior diplomat. Unfortunately, due to the time and resources required, the Embassy cannot arrange White House tours for the Australian public.
As public tours of The White House are not available, you might wish to explore alternative White House experiences such as a visit to The White House Visitor Center or take a virtual tour. Further details can be found on The White House website.

Please be aware of the following:
- Carry your passport with you, as public buildings in the U.S. require government-issued photo identification for entry at security checkpoints.
- You should expect to have your bags searched before being permitted to enter most buildings.
- Many buildings prohibit entry with certain items. If you plan to carry anything more than a wallet, cell phone and car keys, please check the websites of the attractions you intend to visit.
