Nothing says summer like a traditional Aussie BBQ so we kicked off Summer 2017 with a “barbie” for 400 of our closest friends at the Ambassador’s residence.
The barbecue celebrated the “First 100 years of Mateship” between Australia and the United States. On 4 July 1918 Australian and American soldiers fought side by side for the first time on the Western Front in France. Since that day, Australia has been engaged alongside the United States in every major conflict of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The mateship campaign commemorates those who’ve served and celebrates the depth and breadth of the contemporary bilateral relationship across areas as diverse as business and investment, science and innovation, arts, culture and sport.
The barbecue was a great opportunity for the embassy to share the best of Australian food and wine with our friends and colleagues from across the Administration, Congress, the military, business and media.
Honoured guests included the Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, General Robert Neller and the Director of the National Security Agency, Admiral Mike Rogers.
