Australia Global Alumni Strategy Launch - North America

29 January 2017
G'Day USA Global Alumni Strategy Launch

The Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, launched the Australia Global Alumni Strategy for North America on 28 January 2017 at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).

The launch provided an opportunity to connect alumni in the Southern California region, celebrate the achievements of Australian and American alumni in the United States and highlight the benefits of an Australian education.

“If I could adopt the phrase ‘education diplomacy’ I would, as a way of describing the importance of two way exchanges through young people who are living and studying and working in the United States and elsewhere around the world,” Foreign Minister Bishop said as part of her remarks at the launch.

During the event Dr Larry Marshall, Chief Executive Officer of the CSIRO also announced the opening of the new US CSIRO office, to be based in California, supporting the Australian Government’s National Innovation and Science Agenda to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.

The launch was presented as part of the G’Day USA program, with the support of CSIRO, Group of Eight, Advance, the American Australian Association and the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

The Australia Global Alumni North America Strategy will continue to be rolled out across the country, inviting alumni to connect and engage with Australian representatives in the region. Alumni are encouraged to register their interest in attending future events in California and other parts of the United States.
