Receiving your new passport

If you wish to have your new passport sent to you by Federal Express, you will need to pay an additional USD15 (for up to three passports to the one address).  Alternatively, you can collect your passport at no charge from the office where you lodged the application

If you prefer, you can provide a prepaid letter-sized envelope with the courier company of your choice (eg. UPS, FedEx, etc).  However, you must use a service that requires a signature on delivery.  We will not use your courier envelope if it allows a delivery driver to leave your package unattended.  We do not send passports via the US Postal Service.

Acceptable Methods of Payment

You can pay by:

  • Cash in US dollars (except in Los Angeles - no cash accepted) - exact change required
  • Credit card (Visa and Mastercard)
  • Cashier/bank cheque (except in Los Angeles)
  • US Postal Service money order (except in Los Angeles)

Make cashier/bank cheques and money orders payable to the Embassy of Australia if lodging in Washington, or the Australian Consulate-General if lodging elsewhere.  Personal cheques are not accepted at any office.

Urgent Travel:  Emergency Passport

If you need to travel urgently, please advise your interviewing officer when you lodge your application.  Please provide evidence of your need to travel (eg. tickets or letter from your employer).  You may be eligible for an Emergency Passport.  An Emergency Passport contains only four visa pages and has a limited validity. It does not contain a chip and cannot be used to enter the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA).  It is usually issued within 2 working days.

Please note that not all applicants are eligible for an Emergency Passport. You should discuss your eligibility for the Emergency Passport with your interviewer before making any firm travel plans.
