- Australia-United States of America relationship
Australia’s modern electronic visa system does not require you to have a visa label placed in your passport to confirm your immigration status and entitlements in Australia.
When you check in to fly to Australia, airline staff will use your passport to electronically confirm that you have authority to travel to Australia prior to boarding the aircraft. See: About Your Visa
If you are currently in the United States and have been granted a visa from another DIAC office or if you have obtained a new passport and require that your visa label be transferred to your new passport, our office is able to print, or “evidence”, your label. You may request this service in the following ways:
► By Mail
Please include the following items with your request:
• Your original passport(s) along with a self-address/stamped Express Mail envelope from the US Postal Service or an overnight delivery service.
NOTE: if you do not provide return postage, we will return your documents by regular US mail and are not responsible for tracking or timeliness of return.
• A Cover letter with your return address and contact details (email address, phone number). Please indicate if you have an imminent departure date.
• Your grant letter - if available / applicable. You may submit a photocopy.
Our office will evidence visas granted at other posts within 24 hours of the time they are received in our office. You should allow 3-5 business days to account for postage transit time.
► In person
You may come to our client counter and usually obtain your visa label that same day. Please refer to our Public Hours and Holiday Schedule.
Please ensure that each person included in your application has their own passport, and that all passports are current with at last two unused visa pages available in each passport.
Please note that this service is not available to persons who have been granted a label-free visa.
There is no fee for this service.
If you have any questions, you may contact the Information Service for Australian Visas.
