Certified Copies of Original Documents

Consular Officers are able to make certified copies of original documents. Examples include a Passport biodata page if you are completing a Tax File Number Application, or business-related documentation that may be required, for example, to register a U.S. business in Australia.

You may have original documents copied and certified in person at the Embassy in Washington or at our Consulates-General in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Honolulu, San Francisco and Atlanta. You'll find contact details here.

Our Honorary Consuls in Denver and Houston are not able to perform this service.

You do not have to appear in person. If you prefer, you can send your original documents to us. If you do send the documents, we recommend that you use a courier that allows you to track your delivery.

Specify what you want copied and certified. For example, you might want a certified copy of the biodata page from your United States passport, or you might want a certified copy of every page. (The biodata page of your passport is the page that contains your biographical data: full name, date and place of birth, photograph, etc.)

There is a charge for this service under the Consular Fees Act. From 1 May 2012, one copy of a biodata page will cost USD31. A copy of every page in a standard USA passport will cost USD434 (for 14 images), or more if the passport has had pages added to it.

If you want us to return your documents by Federal Express, then there is an additional charge of USD15 for each outbound shipment up to 8 ounces. If you prefer, you can provide a prepaid letter-sized envelope with the courier company of your choice.
