All payments for visa and citizenship applications lodged in Washington must be paid by credit card in Australian Dollars (AUD) only. The Embassy accepts Mastercard, Visa, AMEX and Diners cards. Please be aware that a credit card surcharge might apply.
When completing the credit card details on your application form, be sure to specify the correct amount of the application charge in AUD you authorise the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to charge against your credit card. If you do not authorise the full amount in AUD, your application may be deemed invalid and returned to you. Please click here for further details on visa fees.
Payment to the Department by credit card will appear as an Australian dollar transaction paid to an Australian orgranisation. Prior to lodging your visa application, please notify your bank of an upcoming foreign credit card transaction. Failure to do so may result in your transaction being declined. Without payment your visa application will be deemed invalid and returned to you.
Please note that when paying by credit card in Australian Dollars you may incur banking and currency conversion fees and you accept the risk associated with any currency fluctuations.
